#COVID-19 Pinellas County – Pinellas CARES Fund FOR BUSINESS

OPEN MONDAY, MAY 4, 2020

On Tuesday April 28, 2020, the Pinellas County Board of Commissioners approved the Pinellas CARES Financial Assistance Program which aims to deploy $170M from the CARES Act.

$35M is earmarked for Pinellas County small businesses ($130M is earmarked for Pinellas County residents.)

The county will provide one-time assistance up to $5,000 for businesses (even sole proprietors) with one to 25 employees.

The business must have been open in Pinellas County from at least October 2019 to at least the end of February 2020.

Eligible businesses are restaurants, bars, short-term lodging, and other non-essential businesses as listed in Governor’s Executive Order #20-91 effective April 3, 2020.

Home-based businesses are excluded from this round of funding as eligibility requires the business rent OR own commercial property.

This could help up to 6,500 Pinellas County businesses. There may be an additional funding round in the future with an aim towards those excluded home-based businesses.

Payments are made directly to the recipient and must be used for rent, mortgage, employee retention, and vendor payments. Additionally, the qualifying expenditure must be new and not covered under other assistance or insurance. In other words, there shall be no double-dipping.
